Cherish Devine, 30, from Abercorn Road in Derry, admitted charges of assault and criminal damage from an incident on April 22 at Derry Magistrates Court.

Police responded to a call from staff at supported accommodation to remove Devine. She entered a common dining area and approached another woman. Devine stated she would batter the woman when she got her. She then moved toward the woman, causing fear of assault.

After arrest, Devine pulled the handle off a police vehicle door, resulting in £250 damage.

Defence counsel Stephen Chapman noted Devine received immediate custody in June 2025 with no further incidents. He stated no physical assault occurred, only a threat, and the damage was accidental.

The court imposed a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Devine must pay £250 compensation.
