Police in Strabane have started an investigation into a video circulating on social media. The footage captures a woman entering an unlocked PSNI vehicle parked outside Strabane courthouse.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, April 16. PSNI officers were inside the courthouse at the time, responding to a serious assault nearby. They also provided urgent medical assistance after the assault.

The video shows two women near two police vehicles directly across from the courthouse. One woman checks the door of the first vehicle, finds it locked, then opens the door of the second and sits in the driver's seat.

The woman filming says the other should exit the police car and not drive it. Police confirm the vehicle was not moved.

Independent councillor Raymond Barr viewed the video. He called it reckless for PSNI to leave the vehicle unattended and unlocked. He noted a potential serious breach of internal regulations if keys had been present and the woman attempted to drive away.

A PSNI spokesperson stated officers are aware of the recording. Enquiries into the matter continue.
