Filming Begins on BBC NI-CBC Comedy Series Committed in County Down
Filming has started on 'Committed', a new comedy series co-produced by BBC Northern Ireland and CBC. The show centres on a Canadian accountant who travels to Northern Ireland to pursue a romance with a local woman after meeting her in Toronto.
Derry actor Diona Doherty plays Julie Johnston, the Northern Ireland woman. Canadian actor Peter Hooley portrays Milligan, the accountant. The cast includes Ian McElhinney, Dan Gordon, Muki Zubis, Seamus O’Hara, Patrick Buchanan, Chris McCurry, Athena Karkanis and Georgie Murphy.
Production by Cameron Pictures and Fabel Productions takes place in County Down, with further scenes in Hamilton, Ontario. The series will premiere on CBC and CBC Gem in winter 2027, and on BBC Northern Ireland around the same time.
Sally Catto, CBC General Manager of Programming, described the series as a fish-out-of-water comedy focused on the aftermath of a romantic gesture. Jason Butler, BBC Northern Ireland Commissioning Editor, noted the strong cast and the chance to showcase Northern Ireland humour.
Amy Cameron, Co-Founder and Executive Producer at Cameron Pictures, highlighted the sharp writing and cross-cultural story. Keith Martin, Executive Producer at Fabel Productions, pointed to the quirky rural community setting.
