Newtownards Fire Station Reopens After £1m Upgrade
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished a £1m refurbishment of Newtownards Fire Station in April 2026. The station, built in the early 1950s, now has modern facilities to support current operations.
Upgrades include better welfare areas, a custom kit room, and new mechanical and electrical systems. Solar panels aid sustainability efforts.
Southern Area Commander Dermot Rooney stated that the investment supports staff and infrastructure. He noted the station's over 70 years of service and its role in local emergency responses.
Rooney added that the changes provide safe, modern workspaces for crews. He thanked contributors to the project and the local community for their support.
