Barry Douglas performed Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto with the Ulster Orchestra. He stepped in with two days' notice. The performance took place in Northern Ireland.

Douglas played the cadenza at the end of the first movement. Tom Fetherstonhaugh conducted the orchestra. The orchestra maintained balance with the soloist for most of the concerto.

The concert lasted about 40 minutes for the concerto. The audience gave a standing ovation to Douglas, Fetherstonhaugh, and the players.

The second half featured Bela Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. Bartok composed the work in the USA in 1943.
