North South Way Peace Camino Walking Route Launches Between Portadown and Carlingford
A new walking route named the North South Way Peace Camino launched between Portadown in Northern Ireland and Carlingford. The 40-mile or 65-kilometre path connects the Newry Canal towpath with the Carlingford Lough Greenway.
The route follows waterways, landscapes and villages. REACT Armagh supports the project. It serves as the first all-island peace walking route and a Shared Island peacebuilding initiative.
The path offers a space for people to walk together, connect with nature, explore heritage and experience uniting landscapes.
Shirley Hayes, REACT CEO, described the route as a community-led effort to create a shared pathway for peace across communities, places and traditions.
The route welcomes all participants and promotes walking together for peace.
At the launch, ABC Council Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Jessica Johnston expressed support for the initiative. She noted it encourages community development, peacebuilding, tourism, environmental stewardship, health, wellbeing and local economic growth.
