The Education Authority in Northern Ireland reports that its C2k school IT network has been largely restored after a cyber attack last week. More than 414,000 user accounts for pupils, teachers and non-teaching staff have been reconnected, returning operations to near normal levels.

The attack disrupted access to online systems and resources ahead of GCSE, AS and A-level exams. A full password reset was implemented across the network as a security measure. The authority took immediate steps to contain the issue and launched a full investigation.

Service desk calls have dropped to typical school day levels. Most systems and services required by schools are now accessible.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the attack and later released. The authority engaged with the Information Commissioner's Office and other relevant bodies.

Work continues with a small number of schools where personal data was compromised. Affected individuals will be contacted directly with information and guidance. No further action is required from them at this stage.

The C2k service desk will resume normal hours of 8.30am to 5pm from Monday 20 April. The authority thanked schools, staff, partners, service providers, parents, pupils and communities for their support.
