Police responded to an assault at Strabane Magistrates' Court in Co Tyrone on Thursday, April 16, at 10.52am. A man threw hot water over another man, causing burn injuries to his face and upper body.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service took the victim to hospital for treatment. The suspect fled the scene. Police efforts continue to identify and apprehend him.

The incident occurred at the doors into the courtroom ahead of a committal hearing for Dylan McCrossan, 32, from Beechmount Village, Strabane. McCrossan faces a murder charge related to Stephen Holmes, who died in hospital after an assault on February 3, 2025.

District Judge Alana McSorley halted proceedings during the disturbance. A court official fetched a jug of water from a bench to cool the victim's burns while awaiting the ambulance.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland is working with the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service on the matter. About two hours later, court resumed.

Judge McSorley adjourned McCrossan's committal hearing to May 14 after consulting the Office of the Lady Chief Justice. She limited the session to first appearances, overnight cases, and video-link matters.
