A two-day event in Carndonagh will present the sporting history of the Inishowen peninsula. The free admission gathering includes historical displays of old photographs, archived news items, sporting memorabilia, and artefacts.
A panel discussion takes place at 3.00 pm on Saturday April 25. Representatives from local sports clubs join sportspeople and personalities for the session.
The Colgan Heritage Committee organizes the event titled 'The Sporting Heritage of Carndonagh & Inishowen'. A spokesperson stated that sport has shaped community life in Inishowen for over a century. Clubs serve as hubs for connection and support.
Several clubs mark milestones in 2026. The boxing club and soccer club in Carndonagh reach their 50th anniversaries. The Rashenny club in Clonmany also celebrates 50 years.
Sport in the region began with Gaelic games in the early 1900s. Soccer, athletics, boxing, and golf followed. Recent developments include opportunities for women and young people plus improved facilities.
