Students from South West College competed in a catering event at the Omagh campus. Three teams took part: one from Enniskillen Campus, one from Dungannon Campus, and one from Omagh Campus.

Each team planned, cooked, and served a three-course meal using products from Northern Ireland. They completed the task within three hours. Lisdergan Butchery Fintona sponsored the food costs.

Lecturers from the hospitality and catering departments at each campus provided guidance to the students. Two industry chefs judged the dishes. A professional maitre d'hotel assessed the service.

The Omagh Campus team won the competition. They advance to the grand finals on April 30.

Prizes for finalists include 18 glass trophies for the six regional teams, sponsored by Hastings Hotel Group. The overall winning team receives six weeks of paid industry placements.

All chef finalists get a set of kitchen knives. Front-of-house students receive personalised waiter's jackets.

The winning team and runners-up attend a four-day culinary tour of Ulster with masterclasses from executive chefs and suppliers.

Rotary Clubs in Northern Ireland organise the General Chef competition.
