Police in the Rathfriland area of Co Down stopped a white Audi on Wednesday, April 8. Road Policing Interceptors from Sprucefield used pre-emptive tactics to prevent a pursuit.

The 28-year-old male driver, serving a five-year driving disqualification, tried to flee in the vehicle. He collided with a police car, causing minor damage, then ran on foot across several fields.

Officers chased and caught him a short distance away. They arrested him on suspicion of driving while disqualified, no insurance, criminal damage, failing to stop for police, resisting arrest, and possession of a Class B controlled drug.

The driver faces 10 outstanding money warrants over £1200, plus other matters and summonses. He is assisting police with enquiries.

Police seized the vehicle.
