Veselin Verelinov, 20, of Eastvale Avenue in Dungannon, appeared at Dungannon Magistrates Court on charges related to domestic abuse. He faces nine counts, including non-fatal strangulation, common assault, and criminal damage.

The alleged incidents occurred between November 1, 2025, and April 6, 2026. A woman in a relationship with Verelinov reported the matters to Dungannon police station on April 7, 2026. An investigating officer stated the offences began after she learned of her pregnancy.

Verelinov requested she end the pregnancy and threatened to place abortion pills in her drink, according to court testimony. He is accused of strangling her and, at seven months pregnant, smothering her with a pillow and preventing her from leaving their home.

Further allegations include punching her in the eye, pulling her hair, dragging her to the ground, and making threats to kill her and take the baby. Police noted she required hospital treatment and remains heavily pregnant.

Police opposed bail due to the extended nature of the alleged violence. Verelinov's defence requested release, noting he has no prior record, lives separately from the woman, has family ties locally, and works as a delivery driver.

District Judge Francis Rafferty granted bail at £250 with a £500 cash surety. Conditions include no entry to the Coalisland area, no contact with the woman, passport surrender, and residence at an approved Dungannon address.

Verelinov will appear again at Dungannon Magistrates Court on May 6.
