Carnlough Man Banned from Driving After Drugs Caused Crash on A8
Brian Joseph McAllister, 44, from Beachlands in Carnlough, admitted driving while unfit through drugs on July 11, 2024. The case was heard at Ballymena Magistrates Court.
Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the A8. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
Officers noted McAllister slurring his words and appearing drowsy. A breath test showed zero alcohol, but a blood sample tested positive for diazepam and another drug.
McAllister accepted that he drove after taking unprescribed medication.
His barrister stated that McAllister regretted the harm caused. The barrister added that McAllister had an eye injury from work, took unprescribed medication, dozed off at the wheel, and caused the accident.
A charge of driving without due care was withdrawn.
The court banned McAllister from driving for one year and imposed a £250 fine.
