Portrush RNLI Rescues Yacht with Engine Failure off Causeway Coast
Portrush RNLI launched its inshore lifeboat at 11.29am on Wednesday, April 8, to assist an eight-metre yacht with engine trouble off the Skerries near Portrush Harbour.
HM Coastguard tasked the volunteer crew of four after reports of the vessel in difficulty. The lifeboat reached the scene at 11.50am.
The yacht carried one person on board. It had lost engine power while approaching the harbour.
A local fisherman helped the RNLI crew secure and tow the vessel to Portrush. The yacht and occupant reached shore without injury.
Conditions included calm seas, clear skies, good visibility and light winds.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Beni McAllister advised boat users to perform pre-launch checks on engines and communications, wear lifejackets and carry means to call for help as boating season starts.
