Northern Ireland Electricity Networks met with West Tyrone Sinn Féin MLA Maolíosa McHugh and Derg councillor Caroline Devine on Friday to address power outages in Aghyaran and nearby rural areas.

McHugh described the discussion as constructive. NIE shared details on network challenges including capacity limits and a manual fault identification process.

Much of the Aghyaran electricity network exceeds 50 years in age and requires maintenance and upgrades.

The area will join NIE's Big Network Rebuild programme but work will not complete within two years.

NIE agreed to install new 5kVA transformers and automate the network for faster fault reporting.

Sinn Féin plans to maintain correspondence with NIE and share updates on progress.
