Sinn Féin MLA Urges Health Minister to Restore Women's Aid Funding
Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has asked the Health Minister to examine the funding process for Women's Aid. He raised the issue during a Health Committee meeting.
McGuigan serves as the party's health spokesperson. He pointed out that Women's Aid provides refuge, advocacy, and safeguarding support for women and children.
The Department for Health reduced funding to the organisation by 50% in 2023. It then ended core grant funding entirely in 2024.
McGuigan linked the request to recent events and the continuing challenges of domestic and sexual violence against women and girls. He seeks reinstatement of the funding to assist women and children affected by domestic abuse.
