Assembly Passes Motion for Northern Ireland Women's Health Strategy
The Northern Ireland Assembly passed a motion calling on the Health Minister to develop a Women's Health Strategy. Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon from Mid Ulster spoke after the vote.
Dillon stated that the health system in Northern Ireland frequently dismisses or minimises women's pain. She pointed to long waiting lists for breast services and gynaecology.
The MLA noted failures to diagnose or treat endometriosis, leaving women with severe symptoms. She said women require prompt and high-quality care throughout their lives.
Dillon added that women's pain and symptoms have long been overlooked. Sinn Féin backs a comprehensive Women's Health Strategy with proper resources.
