Artigarvan Man Remanded on Charges of Knife Threat to Wife
Clarance Pinkerton, 56, from Liscurry Gardens in Artigarvan, faces charges of possessing a knife with intent to wound, assault, and making a threat to kill. The charges relate to an incident on March 23.
Police received a 999 call at 3.15am from Pinkerton's wife. She reported that he threatened to stab her before the call ended. Officers found her a short distance from the house.
The woman stated that an argument over money led to Pinkerton grabbing her by the hair. She said she struck him in self-defence and fled to the kitchen, where he held a kitchen knife to her and repeated the threat. She then left the house and contacted police.
Pinkerton was arrested at the scene, but no knife was found. Police opposed bail due to a history of escalating domestic incidents, including a prior allegation involving a machete-style knife.
At Omagh Magistrates Court this week, District Judge Conor Heaney required a suitable bail address before consideration. Defence counsel Stephen McNicoll noted no witnesses, no recovered knife, no injuries to the complainant, and an injury to the defendant along with a differing account.
Pinkerton appeared at Strabane Magistrates Court today. District Judge Alana McSorley denied bail, citing risk of further offending and interference with the complainant. She noted this as the second similar allegation against him involving the same woman.
Pinkerton remains in custody and will appear via video link at Strabane Magistrates Court on April 23.
