Petition Gains 330 Signatures for Annalong Coastal Path Repairs
A petition started by Annalong resident Maureen Holmes has collected 330 signatures calling for repairs to a coastal path. The path runs from the cornmill and harbour south along the shoreline in Annalong.
Rough seas and heavy rainfall earlier this year washed away sections of the path. Holmes stated the damage makes the route unsafe and nearly impassable in spots. She highlighted health and safety risks along the walkway.
About 300 signatures came from Annalong residents. Others signed from Ballymartin and Kilkeel. Holmes expects more support as the holiday season nears.
Holmes contacted local councillors about the issue but received no resolution. Much of the path lacks registration and sits outside council ownership.
She approached Annalong Community Development Association for assistance. The group could lead repairs and seek funding as a charitable organisation.
Holmes described the path as a village feature that once drew residents and visitors for shoreline views. She requested a site visit to plan restoration suitable for families with prams, older people and those with mobility issues.
