AWARE NI Plans Giant Steps Walk Along Causeway Coast for 2026 Mental Health Funds
AWARE NI will hold its Giant Steps fundraising walk on Saturday, 6 June 2026, along the Causeway Coast. The event supports peer-led groups for people with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
The walk marks the fifth year of the event. It has raised more than £200,000 for frontline mental health services. Organisers seek participants from communities across Northern Ireland.
Routes of 7 miles, 13 miles, and 20 miles accommodate walkers of varying abilities. The event accepts those aged 14 and over.
Bell Contracts, a construction firm based in Cookstown and Belfast, serves as headline sponsor for the second year. Barry Potter, Social Value Manager at Bell Contracts, stated the firm values supporting mental health access in every community.
Bridie Kelly, AWARE NI Community and Events Officer, noted the sponsorship aids ongoing services so people face mental ill-health with support.
Participants receive an event package with outdoor support, a t-shirt, medal, meal, and refreshments. Organisers ask for a minimum £100 sponsorship per person.
Northern Ireland recorded 290 deaths by suicide in 2024. Registration opened at aware-ni.org/giant.
