Two men appeared at Derry Magistrates’ Court in Bishop’s Street following the seizure of suspected controlled drugs valued at £100,000. Sean McMonagle, 53, of Clon Elagh in Derry, and Gian Maria Marglonghi, 29, of Lower Main Street in Letterkenny, face charges including possession of Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply.

Police searched a brown bin at McMonagle’s address on March 18 and discovered two sports bags. The bags held about 5kg of Class A drugs and just under 1kg of Class C drugs. Officers also recovered individual deal bags.

CCTV footage showed two men arriving in a vehicle. Marglonghi exited the car, removed two holdalls from the boot, and placed them in the bin. McMonagle left the car, entered the house, then went to a neighbouring property wearing black gloves.

Police arrested both men that afternoon. They found Marglonghi asleep in McMonagle’s house along with scales and gloves. McMonagle provided his phone passcode during interview but gave no comment on other questions.

Marglonghi confirmed handling the bags and their contents but stated he did not know what was inside at the time. Police opposed bail citing risks of reoffending and interference with justice.

The court granted bail to both men. They will appear again on April 16.
