The Department for Communities has opened a competition to appoint new members to the Historic Buildings Council. Applications close at 12 noon on Monday 13 April 2026.

The Historic Buildings Council serves as a statutory advisor to the Department for Communities. It provides advice on listing and delisting buildings and on listed building consent. The council also reviews the state of preservation of listed buildings and reports to the department.

Council members contribute to efforts to protect and develop the historic environment. The Department encourages applications from individuals with relevant skills and commitment from any background.
