Department for Communities Opens Competition for Libraries NI Board Councillor Position
The Department for Communities has started a competition to appoint a councillor to the board of Libraries Northern Ireland. Applications close at 12 noon on Thursday 9 April 2026.
Libraries NI must deliver a comprehensive and efficient public library service to people living, working or studying in Northern Ireland.
The 89 branches and mobile stops serve areas within two miles of 89% of the population. Libraries function as community hubs offering free and accessible spaces to users of all ages, cultures and backgrounds.
The board sets strategic direction for the organisation and ensures implementation of policies set by the Minister for the Department for Communities.
The department wants individuals with relevant experience to apply as the councillor member. It values diversity among board members.
Application packs and details appear on the DfC public appointments website or through the Public Appointments Unit. Public sector workers should check section 5 of the candidate information booklet.
