Co Tyrone Father Dies in Bali Beach Incident as Authorities Probe Circumstances
Jonathan Joel Kennedy, a 39-year-old father from Ballynakelly near Dungannon in Co Tyrone, died on March 15 after his body was recovered from water off Nyang Nyang Beach on Bali's southern coast.
Tourists spotted him unconscious in the sea early that Sunday morning. Agencies including the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, Water Police, South Kuta Police, Pecatu village authorities, Balawista South Kuta lifeguards, and local community members took part in the recovery.
Nyoman Sidakarya, head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, confirmed multiple groups assisted after reports of a body floating offshore.
Bali authorities have begun an investigation into the death.
Kennedy was the father of Jericho, son of Amanda and Joel, and brother of Vanessa and Diane. His mother Amanda posted online that her heart was broken and expressed enduring love for her son.
A death notice stated he was a devoted father and loving son, always loved and forever missed.
He had played football for Dungannon United Youth and Dungannon Rovers, where he featured in a team that secured a league and cup double in the late 2000s. Dungannon Rovers expressed sorrow at his passing and offered thoughts to his family and friends.
