Boy Aged 10 Saves Choking Sister After First Aid Training
A 10-year-old boy in Newcastle saved his five-year-old sister from choking on a jelly sweet. The incident occurred in their home living room earlier this month.
Jude Rafferty-McCabe identified that his sister Robyn was choking when she ran in holding her throat. He placed her on the sofa and delivered five backslaps, dislodging the sweet.
Their mother Kerry Rafferty stated that she sat in shock as her son took immediate action based on training received less than 24 hours earlier.
Jude had attended a first aid class at his weekly 1st Newcastle Cubs meeting in Valentia Place. Caroline Boyd of Mini First Aid delivered the session.
Kerry Rafferty noted that the training enabled her son to respond automatically and recommended the service for young people.
