Sinn Féin pushes for endometriosis care centres after women detail care struggles
Sinn Féin health spokesperson David Cullinane has called for regional centres of excellence and clear care pathways for women with endometriosis and similar gynaecological conditions in Ireland.
Speaking after a party conference on women's health hosted by MEP Lynn Boylan, Cullinane said women had shared experiences of severe pain, long waits for diagnosis, and symptoms being dismissed. Some had travelled abroad for surgery and then struggled to access follow-up care at home.
He said the health service must move beyond managing waiting lists and instead aim to build services women can trust. That would require better GP awareness, clear referral routes, properly resourced teams, and specialist centres for complex cases.
Cullinane acknowledged some progress had been made but said significant gaps remain. He said the party would learn from women's experiences to push for better services.
