James Grimes, aged 85, and his son Emmett Grimes, aged 54, died from heart attacks at their home on the Garvaghey Road in Tyrone. The deaths occurred on a Tuesday evening. First responders attended the scene.

Several hundred people attended their joint funeral mass at St Matthew’s Church in Garvaghey on Sunday. Parish priest Fr Michael O’Dwyer led the service.

Fr O’Dwyer stated that police and medical protocols sealed the house after the deaths, creating a period of uncertainty for family and friends. He noted that medical confirmation of heart attacks as the cause came by Thursday.

Items linked to James Grimes's work as a plasterer and Emmett Grimes's work as an electrician were presented at the altar. Prayers were said for the first responders.

Fr O’Dwyer said two coffins returned to the family home on Friday morning. He described both men as active in the community.
