Volunteers with the Beyond the Call Project in Omagh have knitted blankets, hats, gloves and other garments for newborns in maternity and neonatal units served by the Western Health Trust.

The project operates through Omagh Volunteer Centre with funding from the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland. Earlier this year, participants made items for local units.

Staff from Omagh Volunteer Centre recently handed over the garments to the maternity services team at the Western Health Trust. Brenda McCabe, Lead Midwife for the Southern Sector of the Western Trust, received the donation.

McCabe expressed thanks to Omagh Volunteer Centre staff Martin and Carol for organising the effort. She stated the Trust appreciates the contribution and requested thanks go to the volunteers.

The items will go to maternity and neonatal units in the Western Trust for parents to use with their babies.

Martin Cassidy, manager at Omagh Volunteer Centre, said such projects demonstrate community kindness. He noted volunteers share their time and skills to provide warmth for newborns.
