Police in Downpatrick are investigating an arson attack on a flat in the Galhaun area. The incident took place between 1.20am and 1.30am on Friday 6 March 2026.

A wheelie bin was placed against the front door of the property and ignited. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire. The door suffered damage.

A man inside the flat escaped by climbing out a window. Detectives classify the fire as arson with intent to endanger life.
