New 18-Metre 5G Mast Proposed for Rock Road in Derry
MBNL has submitted a planning application to replace an existing 11.7-metre-high telecommunications pole with a new 18-metre-high mast on Rock Road in Derry. The company, jointly owned by EE and Three, aims to upgrade infrastructure for better network service.
The proposal includes installing six antennas and three dummy antennas on the new pole. Four equipment cabinets will be added inside a fenced compound off the footpath within the treeline.
A supporting planning statement from WHP Telecoms indicates the height increase meets current technical needs. It will enhance coverage and capacity in the local area.
The current mast, located 5 metres from the proposed site, offers limited service. Upgrades respond to rising demands from data-intensive devices.
The new installation will retain 2G coverage, add improved 4G, and introduce 5G for EE.
