Comedian Stephen Large Launches Stand-Up Tour Across Northern Ireland
Stephen Large, creator of the Dundonald Liberation Army parody Facebook page, has begun a stand-up comedy tour. The page has 63,000 followers. Large, aged 44 and a father of two, quit his 15-year role as a production planner at a carpet manufacturing business last year after his father's death.
He runs the Dundonald Liberation Army as a satirical news source. Large has written plays including Three’s a Shroud, performed at Belfast’s Waterfront. In 2023, he held a week of shows at the Grand Opera House main stage.
Large first entered comedy 15 years ago. His work progressed to fill his time outside his day job. He chose comedy over employment due to growing commitments and a mortgage.
BBC NI commissioned sketches from him when Ireland and Northern Ireland football teams qualified for the Euros. Large started stand-up attempts before the pandemic but faced delays from lockdown and Covid-19 isolation over Christmas 2021.
The tour, Stephen Large - Having it Large, includes dates in Downpatrick, Omagh, Belfast, Portrush and Cookstown. Tickets are available at nicomedy.com.
