Annaghmore Postmistress Margaret Willis Retires After 46 Years, Son Takes Over
Margaret Willis has retired as postmistress of Annaghmore Post Office in County Armagh after 46 years of service. She and her husband Thomas took over the post office and attached small shop in January 1980. Margaret managed post office operations while Thomas handled retail.
In 2006 the couple rebuilt the premises at 2 Derrycoose Road to expand the retail area. Their son Andrew joined as a partner at that time. The post office serves a growing community with increased housing and no nearby banks for everyday banking needs.
Since the first lockdown Margaret focused on administrative work and accounts while reducing customer-facing duties. Daughter-in-law Gillian worked in the business to sustain post office services.
Andrew Willis became postmaster this week. He and Gillian now run the business. Margaret said she enjoyed working with numbers and meeting local people in the small community. Post Office Area Manager Timmy Grant thanked Margaret for her long service and noted the improved premises built with Thomas.
