Craigavon Post Office Closure Scheduled for March 24
Royal Mail will close the Post Office branch at 29 Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon on March 24. The company stated a need remains for a post office in the area and plans to re-advertise the vacancy soon on its website.
Alternative branches operate nearby at Gilpinstown Road, Seagrove and Derrymacash. Royal Mail thanked the postmaster who ran the branch for 28 years.
Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Nelson contacted Royal Mail to request an urgent meeting. She seeks details on the closure decision and options to keep services local.
Nelson also spoke with Rushmere Shopping Centre management. The managers indicated support for retaining the post office and willingness to assist in finding solutions.
Post offices in Northern Ireland provide services including pension collections and bill payments. These support residents without online banking access.
Nelson pledged to protect jobs for the four affected staff members. She intends to consult stakeholders and inform the community of progress.
