The Gill’s Charity Fund has awarded more than £60,000 to local groups in Carrickfergus since 2021. Grants of up to £3,500 support projects benefiting older residents in the former borough area. The Community Foundation now accepts applications for the 2026 round.

Funding targets initiatives that promote physical and mental wellbeing. Efforts include reducing isolation, building independence and increasing community involvement among older people.

Past grants have tackled vulnerability, participation in activities, fear of crime and health improvements. Orla Black, Director of Grants and Fund Development at the Community Foundation, noted the focus on groups aiding older residents.

The charity traces to 1761 and the will of Henry Gill. It has aided the Carrickfergus area for 260 years through the Community Foundation. Applications close on March 12, 2026.
