Southern Regional College GAA Team Wins All-Ireland Higher Education Title
The higher education Gaelic football team of Southern Regional College defeated Atlantic Technological University Connemara 3-12 to 2-7 in the All-Ireland final. The win marks the college's first championship in the competition since 2019.
SRC took an early hit with opponents scoring a goal and a point. Conor Ward responded with a goal and a point to level the score. Points followed from Martin McKinley, Odhran Hynes and captain Conor Cunningham before half-time.
ATU Connemara cut the lead to one point at the interval, with the score at 2-5 to 2-4. In the second half, Danny McLogan and Odhran Hynes added points early. Donal Coffey, Kyle Clerkin, Dara Og McCoy and Martin McKinley contributed further scores.
Substitute Oran Wilson scored a key goal. The defence held ATU Connemara to three points after the break. Conor Ward received man of the match recognition.
Co-team manager Rory McGreevy credited the players with strong character for overcoming the early setback and securing the result. Principal and chief executive Lee Campbell stated the success demonstrates teamwork and leadership across the college.
The victory caps efforts by managers Rory McGreevy and Ronan Haughey during the season. It involved players including captain Conor Cunningham and Oran Wilson in their final appearance for SRC.
