Ballycastle Police Patrols Charge Drink-Driver and Detect 108mph Speeder
Police from the Maydown Road Policing Interceptors conducted targeted patrols in Ballycastle on Friday, February 27. The operation included multiple authorised vehicle checkpoints where drivers underwent breath tests.
One driver produced a roadside breath test result exceeding twice the legal drink-drive limit and faces a court appearance. Officers seized two vehicles found without insurance. Each driver received a fixed penalty notice with six penalty points and a 200 pound fine.
Additional fixed penalty notices went to drivers for offences such as excess speed, illegally tinted windows and mobile phone use while driving. In one case, police detected a motorist travelling at 108mph in wet conditions. That driver will appear in court soon.
Northern Ireland recorded 15 road deaths before the end of February. Police stress that all road users must drive safely.
