Extra £2.5m Boosts Northern Ireland Roads Investment to Over £40m Since December
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins allocated an additional £2.5 million for roads maintenance in Northern Ireland this financial year. The funding raises total investment in the road network above £40 million since December.
This follows a £30 million allocation in December and programming of 40 resurfacing schemes. Officials also announced a £7.85 million Winter Recovery Road Fund. The new money targets damage from recent severe weather across the region.
Kimmins directed officials to increase workforce capacity urgently. After discussions with contractors, extra resources became available for repairs in all road divisions.
The Department for Infrastructure handles road upkeep under Northern Ireland's devolved powers. Severe weather has strained the network, prompting repeated funding boosts.
Public reports of potholes and defects remain encouraged through the online portal at www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/report-pothole-or-other-surface-defect. Officials prioritise inspections and fixes for urgent cases.
