St Mary's Primary School in Fivemiletown introduces free PE jumpers
St Mary's Primary School in Fivemiletown, County Tyrone, has introduced free PE jumpers for all pupils to promote greater involvement in physical activities. The initiative responds to feedback from parents and children seeking an alternative to the standard school jumper during sports.
The school partnered with its Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) to fund the jumpers, ensuring no additional financial burden on families. Principal Brian McCloskey stated the measure supports physical and mental health by allowing children to engage freely in sports without concern for damaging uniforms.
McCloskey highlighted the school's talented athletes in football, dance, rugby, and gymnastics, noting the new jumpers enable full participation. The initiative coincides with the launch of a Friday Morning Running Club, with plans for pupils to represent the school in upcoming events.
PTFA Chair Sinead McGovern noted the association used funds raised from local families and businesses to purchase the jumpers and playground equipment, aiming to ensure equal access to sporting opportunities for all children.
