The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Tom Gordon, expressed condolences to families affected by recent road deaths at a council meeting on Monday evening.

Speaking at The Braid in Ballymena, he described each road death as a devastating tragedy for families, friends and wider communities.

He extended sympathies on behalf of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

Alderman Gordon also paid tribute to Beth Duffin, a long-standing member of Larne Drama Circle.

She acted in and directed theatrical productions from 1955 to 2010 and was involved with the Association of Ulster Drama Festivals.

He also remembered Billy Teare, a professional storyteller who performed in schools, theatres, libraries and clubs across Northern Ireland and at international festivals.

Teare began as a stand-up comedian in Belfast in the 1980s while working as a law clerk, later becoming a professional storyteller. He co-authored Antrim Folk Tales with Kathleen O'Sullivan.

Councillors stood for a minute's silence in memory of those who had died.
