Grassroots football awards honour Northern Ireland volunteers and clubs
The Irish FA and McDonald's have announced the regional winners of this year's Grassroots Football Awards at an event held at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park.
Cloughey was named club of the year, while Claire Coney of Ards Rangers Inclusion received the Football for All Award. Gary Pitman of Abbey Villa was recognised as volunteer of the year, and Scarlet Rose Alfred of Scrabo Football Academy was named young volunteer of the year.
Former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pat Jennings presented the trophies. Jennings said grassroots football is built by people who turn up week after week to create places where young people can enjoy the game, grow in confidence and feel part of a team.
He added that the awards show why the grassroots game matters and that every winner has helped make football more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable in their community.
McDonald's franchisee Paul Connan said the company is proud to support the people and clubs that bring communities together through football, and that their time, care and enthusiasm gives young people opportunities beyond the pitch.
The awards recognise the work of clubs and volunteers who give up their time and make a lasting impact on young people and communities across Northern Ireland.
A national awards ceremony will be held at a later date.
