Roscavey Primary School, located near Beragh, celebrated its 60th anniversary over the weekend with a series of events attended by current pupils, staff, parents, past pupils, governors, and members of the wider community.

The celebrations began with a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Beragh, celebrated by Fr Sean McCartan. The service provided an opportunity to give thanks for the generations of children, families, and staff who have contributed to the school since its opening, and to remember those no longer present who played a role in its life.

Following the Mass, guests returned to the school for refreshments and an opportunity to meet old friends, share memories, and reminisce about their school days. A special presentation was made to Mrs Joan McCrory, whose retirement was acknowledged during the celebrations. Mrs McCrory began her service at Roscavey Primary School in 1992 and devoted many years to the school community.

Principal Mrs Joni McSorley thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the celebrations. She said the anniversary was a memorable occasion celebrating what makes the school special, and that the turnout demonstrated the strong bond between the school, the parish, and the wider community. She expressed gratitude to staff, the organising committee, and parents for their hard work, and thanked all those past and present who have shaped the story of the school over the last sixty years.

The school said the celebrations concluded with a sense of gratitude for the past and excitement for the future, as it continues its mission of providing learning, friendship, faith, and community for future generations.
