A new original performance inspired by local folklore will be part of this year's Derry Halloween festival. The Blue Guardian, delivered by the FUSE Arts Youth Dance Troupe, will be staged in the Mute Meadows area of Ebrington as part of the Awakening the Walled City Trail from October 28 to 30.

The performance tells the story of a ghostly Blue Guardian who escapes each year from the old Glendermott Road Workhouse to search for lost children once in her care. It combines contemporary dance, movement and visual storytelling.

Zoe McSparron of FUSE Arts said the organisation was looking forward to bringing the story to life. She said providing opportunities for local people to be involved in large-scale cultural events like Derry Halloween is extremely important.

Derry City and Strabane District Council said it has made its largest investment to date in local creative participation for the festival. FUSE Arts is one of three local organisations collaborating with the council on this year's carnival parade, along with Newgate Arts Centre and Greater Shantallow Community Arts.

The festival is delivered by Derry City and Strabane District Council with support from Tourism Northern Ireland and The Executive Office. More information is available at derryhalloween.com.
