A suspected gas leak on Finaghy Road North in south Belfast resulted in the evacuation of several homes on Monday.

Firefighters were called to Trench Park, off Finaghy Road North, at 10.15am after reports of damage to a gas pipeline.

Two fire appliances from Cadogan Fire Station, two from Springfield Fire Station, and one appliance plus a command support unit from Lisburn Fire Station attended the scene.

A Phoenix Energy spokesperson said engineers were on site following recent damage to a company gas pipeline. The utility said its engineers were working at the scene and would continue to engage with local residents as necessary.

The incident was ongoing at the time of the report.
