Two Tyrone sisters have been remanded in custody after being charged over an alleged assault and robbery of a 70-year-old man in Castlederg on Friday, September 18.

Donna Wray, 52, of Alexander Park, Castlederg, is charged with assault causing serious harm and theft. Katherine McGlynn, 51, of Ballycolman Estate, Strabane, faces charges of assault causing serious harm, theft, possession of an offensive weapon, and criminal damage.

Police were called to a property on Tullycar Road in Castlederg where the sisters were standing outside and the man inside had facial injuries.

A witness told police that he let the sisters in because it was raining. Once inside, they allegedly began drinking the victim's alcohol and searching his rooms. The witness accused McGlynn of striking the man with a frying pan and claimed Wray stamped on his head before £400 was taken from the victim's wallet and they left.

McGlynn appeared at Dungannon Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody. Wray was taken to hospital after her arrest and appeared at Omagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Defence counsel Ciaran Roddy said the £200 found on Wray during her arrest was her own money, saved by her children to decorate her house after her release from prison in July. He said she was heavily intoxicated and did not remember the incident. The court heard Wray has over 320 convictions, including 20 for theft and over 40 for assaults.

District Judge Conor Heaney refused bail for Wray, stating there were no conditions that could manage the risk she posed. The case will return to Strabane Magistrates Court on October 15, where both women will appear by videolink.
