Foyle Port has named Foyle Women’s Aid as its new charity partner, with a commitment to provide £15,000 in funding over the next year.

Employees at the Port chose the organisation through a nomination process. The charity, which is approaching its 50th anniversary, works to tackle domestic abuse and sexual violence in the North West through awareness raising, preventive education and direct support.

As part of the partnership, Foyle Women’s Aid will deliver training to Port staff on the company’s new Domestic Abuse Policy, with the aim of creating an informed and safe workplace.

Marie Brown, Chief Executive of Foyle Women’s Aid, said the funding would directly support the charity’s work with victims of abuse through support, prevention, protection and justice. She noted that being chosen by the Port’s employees was particularly significant and reflected the impact of the organisation’s five decades of work in the local community.

Ian Luney, Chief Executive of Foyle Port, said the partnership aligned with the Port’s commitment to making a positive difference locally and with the Executive’s Programme for Government priority of Ending Violence Against Women and Girls. He stated that employees had voted for a cause that reflected the values and priorities of the workforce.

Foyle Port has previously partnered with HURT NI and AWARE NI.
