Man charged with attempted murder after Belfast assault leaves victim with serious eye injuries
A man in his 40s sustained serious injuries to his eyes following an assault in Belfast. A suspect has been charged with attempted murder.
The accused, a Sudanese national in his 30s, is alleged to have entered the United Kingdom by crossing the Irish border. He had previously flown from Paris to Dublin.
A demonstration took place outside a hotel in Southampton, where some participants held signs including one that read "Belfast-Southampton Stands With You". The protest was held in response to the Belfast incident.
Police attended the Southampton demonstration to manage the gathering.
