A woman aged in her 50s has died after being struck by a car in Limavady, County Londonderry, on Sunday afternoon.

Police received a report at around 2.50pm of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car in the Drumrane Road area. Officers and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service crews attended and provided medical treatment at the scene, but the woman died a short time later from her injuries.

The Drumrane Road was closed for a period following the incident and has since reopened.

Detective Inspector Stewart from the PSNI's Collision Investigation Unit said inquiries are continuing. He appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam or other footage to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 926 of 16/08/26. Information can also be submitted online via the PSNI non-emergency reporting form or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

SDLP MLA Cara Hunter said there is a sense of shock and sadness in Limavady, and she extended condolences to the woman's family.
