A three-week programme of activities for children and young people has been completed in Strabane, run by the Strabane Ethnic Community Association (SECA).

The Summer of Fun programme ran with a different focus each week. The first week centred on art and food, with workshops delivered by SECA committee member Michelle Singh and Thai Arts NI, offering hands-on creative activities.

The second week addressed wellbeing. Facilitators Mind Over Matter Mindfulness, Connections NI and Wholistic Haven led sessions on emotional regulation, resilience, mindfulness, relaxation and aromatherapy. Children made their own wellbeing resources, including mindfulness jars, wish boxes, worry dolls and scent rollers, intended as tools they could continue to use after the programme.

The final week focused on sport and exercise. SECA founder Bobby Rao and coach Richard Dalzell gave cricket coaching sessions, introducing participants to the sport. A celebration day at Lock N Load Derry with laser tag marked the end of the programme.

A SECA spokesperson stated that the programme helps children build confidence, resilience and positive relationships and celebrates creativity, diversity and inclusion.

The association thanked the Northern Ireland Housing Executive for funding the programme, and thanked all facilitators and partner organisations who contributed.
