A Ballygally resident has raised £100 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) by displaying her handmade arts and crafts in her front garden.

Jeannie Hunter, who is in her 80s, offered her creations to visitors in exchange for donations to the charity. She has experienced sight loss herself following a diagnosis of dry macular degeneration more than a year ago.

Ms Hunter, a former merchant seawoman, described her motivation as wanting to do something kind and said she had previously held a similar fundraiser for the RNLI.

RNIB provides support for people affected by sight loss across Northern Ireland. The charity estimates that 57,000 people in the region are affected by sight loss.

Kirsty Campbell, a communications officer with RNIB, expressed gratitude for the fundraiser and for those who supported it.
