The Maguiresbridge community will hold a sunrise memorial walk on Saturday to mark the first anniversary of the deaths of a mother and her two teenage children.

Vanessa Whyte, 45, and her children, Sara Rutledge, 13, and James Rutledge, 14, were shot in their home in the village on 23 July 2025. Her husband, Ian Rutledge, 43, later died in hospital. Police named him as the only suspect in the killings.

Organised by Maguiresbridge St Mary’s GFC, the walk will begin at 5am at Páirc na hÓige. Participants are encouraged to wear a special commemorative jersey released earlier this year, which features the names of the three deceased and a blue-and-yellow heart representing Ms Whyte’s native Co Clare.

In a statement, the club said the walk offers an opportunity to remember, reflect and celebrate the lives and lasting impact of the three club members. Tea and coffee will be available afterwards, providing space for people to talk and support one another.

This is the latest in a series of community efforts to honour the family. On New Year’s Day, the club held a fundraising walk that raised £1,100 for Women’s Aid.
